What my third marathon taught me about showing up; for yourself, for your kids, for your life. Let me be honest with you the way I'd be honest with my best friend.
The Saturday before the Lifetime Miami Marathon, I sat down and cried. Not because I was injured. Not because something went wrong. But because I knew exactly what 26.2 miles was going to ask of me, and I wasn't sure I had it in me this time.
I know what a marathon demands. The early mornings. The miles logged before the kids wake up. The tired legs carrying a full life. I've done this before, twice. And somehow, knowing what was coming made it feel heavier, not lighter.
I laced up anyway. Because doing hard things reminds us who we are.
The weight of a full life
Here's what nobody tells you about being a high-achieving woman: the hardest part isn't the hard thing itself. It's the voice in your head that says, maybe not this time. Maybe you're too tired. Too busy. Too much is on your plate. Maybe you should sit this one out.
I've learned that voice is lying.
I crossed that finish line in Miami not because everything was perfectly aligned, trust me it wasn't. I crossed it on tired legs, with a full life, with a heart full of why. For myself. For my kids. For every woman watching who needed to see that it's possible.
We can do hard things
This is what I want you to take from my third marathon, not my pace, not my training plan, but this: the fact that it feels hard is not a sign that you shouldn't do it. It's a sign that it matters.
Whether your hard thing is a 5K, a new business, a difficult conversation, going back to school, or just getting out of bed and choosing yourself today, the principle is the same. You are more capable than the version of yourself that almost didn't start.
Third marathon. Done. Not because it was easy. Because I chose it anyway.
"If I can do this, on tired legs, with a full life, so can you."
Your turn
What's the hard thing you've been putting off? The goal that keeps whispering your name that you keep telling yourself "not yet"? I want you to sit with that today. Because I genuinely believe you're closer than you think.
We don't have to be fearless. We just have to lace up anyway.
